The basic know – how and calculation procedures to make feasible to carry out the detailed design of a ship propeller are include in this book.

It has been designated as detailed design of a propeller the final product achieved after considering the operating conditions of the propeller inside the sternpost contour so that the radial distribution of thrust per unit of radial length of the blade annular sections be appropriated having into account the goal to achieve the highest efficiency of the propeller with a minimum cavitation development on the propeller blades in order to assure that the pressure pulses originated by the propeller be as low as possible.

The calculation of the relative motion of the water with regard to the propeller blade annular sections is extremely complicated. An exhaustive study of the most relevant procedures which allow to calculate the aforementioned water relative motion is included.

Chapter 4 deals with the corrections that it is necessary to introduce to the geometry and the spatial positioning of propeller blade annular sections to take into account the three – dimensional boundary conditions which affect to the working conditions of the ship propeller.

The necessary calculations requested to check the mechanical strength of the propeller blades are described and Chapter 10 deals with the necessary calculation to assure the correct behaviour from the cavitation point of view.

The propeller geometric data of the resulting design must be included on drawings and/or dimension books with the aim to make feasible its manufacturing. Chapter 6 deals with the elaboration of propeller constructive drawings.

The general problem of optimization of the ship propulsion is arisen in Chapter 7 and 8 and the design techniques of certain propulsion systems and special devices are given in Chapter 9.

The process to predict the behaviour of a given propeller into a variable both radially and circumferentially wake field is explained in Chapter 11.

The basics of Fluid Mechanic have been included.
